First view of Peterhof - summer palace of Peter fhe Great
Gold lion spouting water!
The Peterhof estate is nicknamed "the Russian Versailles" for all its fountains
The Peterhof Palace
Jenny at the Peterhof Palace
Dennis at the Peterhof Palace
Spectacular fountains, waterfalls and gold statues at the palace. In the middle, the large Samson Fountain depicts the moment when Samson tears open the jaws of a lion, representing Russia's victory over Sweden in the Great Northern War
The fountains all work without the use of a pump. Water fountains traditionally use a pump to send water through the fountain from the basin; however the unique topology of this area is perfect for creating pressure to supply the water to the fountains. The difference in height of the upper gardens and the lower gardens creates enough pressure to drive the water through the fountains.
Beautiful grounds at the Peterhof
Numerous statues along the Grand Cascade

OOPS! Dennis "stepped on the correct rock"! Actually the innocent looking kid behind the bench remotely activates the fountain on unsuspecting tourists!!
Got a little wet!
Peterhof palace squirrel and bird!
Fountain has turned
Another "trick" fountain. Once you are under the umbrella canopy, the fountain activates and traps you behind the water!!

Another trick fountain!
More magic fountain stones activated when stepped on! No takers in our group this time!
Numerous weddings were occurring all over the Peterhof palace grounds. I ran into this bride and her maid of honor (noted by the sash) in the ladies room!
